The Supreme Council of the Federal Judiciary has set up a ‘one-day misdemeanor court’ to hear and adjudicate more than 50 types of minor cases stipulated in the penal code.

Minister of Justice Sultan Saeed Al Badi issued Ministerial Resolution No. 704 for 2020 establishing a one-day misdemeanor court in all federal courts of law.

The misdemeanor court will try minor cases including wiretapping, traffic-related crimes such as changing of number plate data, using a fake vehicle plate number, driving a car under the influence of alcohol or illegal drugs, driving without license, amongst many others.

Meanwhile, the court will also fast track adjudication of cases related to illegal entry, entry without proper documents, harboring illegal immigrants, absconding and forging entry visa or permit.

The move aims to administer justice without delay, according to Al Badi.
