Interior Secretary Eduardo Año has put an end to speculations that President Rodrigo Duterte has already received the jab against COVID-19.

In a radio interview, Año said the doctors of the President doctors did not approve of him taking the vaccine, especially since there are no vaccines yet approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

“Si Presidente mismo nagsasabi sa amin na gusto niya pero ang advice ng doktor niya ay huwag. Talagang hindi pa siya nagpapabakuna, ayaw ng mga doktor niya,” Año explained.

The President revealed over the weekend that some soldiers already received the vaccine developed by China’s Sinopharm.

On Monday, the Armed Forces of the Philippines confirmed that members of the Presidential Security Group (PSG) were the ones who were given the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) vaccine.

“Per our inquiry, members of the PSG were the first ones from the AFP who were vaccinated owing to the nature of their mission and function,” AFP spokesperson Marine Maj. Gen. Edgard Arevalo said in a statement forwarded to reporters.
