The new COVID-19 strain found in the United Kingdom has entered Singapore, as the city-state reported its first case of the of the new virus variant.
Aside from this, they are also monitoring 11 passengers from Europe, whose tests had returned preliminarily positive results for the new strain, according to Reuters.
The passengers had been placed under 14-day quarantine.
Singapore’s health ministry, however, clarified: “There is currently no evidence that the B117 strain is circulating in the community,” saying that those who have been in close contact with the passengers have already been isolated.
The patient detected with the potentially more infectious UK strain arrived in Singapore on Dec. 6 and tested positive on Dec. 8.
Passengers with recent UK travel are not allowed to enter Singapore to prevent the spread of the new strain.
