Canada has kicked off its first vaccination program against the coronavirus disease by injecting frontline healthcare workers.

Canada has become the third country to roll out the Pfizer-BioNtech vaccine.

The first dose went to Anita Quidangen, a personal support worker at the Rekai Centre. She is working in a non-profit nursing home for the elderly in Toronto, Canada’s largest city.

Health workers lauded her as she took on the first dose of the vaccine.

In a Reuters report, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said the first recipients of the vaccine will be workers in hospitals and nursing homes.

Meanwhile, the United States has also started rolling out its COVID-19 vaccination.

Sandra Lindsay, a critical care nurse at the Long Island Jewish Medical Center, received the Pfizer-BioNTech aired on television.

“First Vaccine Administered. Congratulations USA! Congratulations WORLD!” US President Donald Trump said in a tweet.

Lindsay said she did not feel anything after the vaccination.

“I feel great. I feel relieved,” she said.
