Two Dubai teenagers were arrested by Dubai Police after ramming into a police patrol.
The two men, aged 14 and 15, rammed the police vehicle in the wee hours.
Brigadier Saeed Bin Sulaiman Al Malik, director of Al Rashidiya Police Station, said the two young men were arrested for putting the lives of policemen and other drivers at risk due to their reckless driving.
“Police patrol asked the driver to stop but he refused. They hit the police patrol and drove recklessly in the opposite direction of the traffic until a police patrol stopped them,” the police officer said.
“Initial investigation showed that the driver took his brother’s vehicle without his knowledge. The irresponsible act can be punished under the traffic laws,” the police said.
The Dubai Prosecution will be handling the case and they may be charged with reckless driving, endangering the lives of other users, damaging public property and hitting a police car.
Authorities urge parents to monitor their children to prevent them from driving who are still underage.
In the UAE, if the minor drivers are caught for the second time, strict legal action would be taken against them. They will face a maximum prison sentence of three months and/or a minimum AED5,000 fine.
Parents who allow children below 18 to drive on the roads can also be held accountable under the juvenile delinquency law.
