OPM icon April Boy Regino had a battle with chronic kidney disease before his death on Sunday at the Metro Antipolo Hospital and Medical Center in Rizal province. He was 59 years old.
In a Facebook post, Madelyn, wife of the singer, said that he succumbed to acute respiratory failure and had been dealing with stage 5 chronic kidney disease.
“No More Pain Sa Iyo Mahal… Sobrang pain naman sa akin… Sabi mo gusto mo pang mabuhay dahil gusto mo pa akong makasama. Bakit mo ako iniwan ? Ang daya mo mahal! Hindi ko pa kaya!” she said.
The wife also thanked President Rodrigo Duterte for supporting the singer’s medical needs.
“Sa hindi po nakakaalam si Tatay Digong po ang nagbibigay buwan-buwan para sa maintenance ng mga gamot ni Idol, simula pa nun Mayor pa lang siya hanggang sa naging Presidente na siya,” she said.
Regino will be remembered for his classic songs ‘Paano ang Puso Ko’, ‘Umiiyak ang Puso’ at ‘Di ko Kayang Tanggapin’.
“Nakakalungkot naman ang araw na ito. Wala na ang kuya April Boy ko,” Vingo Regino, the singer’s brother, wrote on his Facebook account.
