A ticket ride on Hyperloop’s Abu Dhabi to Dubai could cost around AED50 to AED55, according to Josh Giegel, co-founder and CTO of the company behind the multi-billion dollar transportation project in the UAE.
“This is really designed for everyday people… So if you’re looking at Abu Dhabi-Dubai route, [it’s] something like 12 minutes that we complete that route,” Giegel told in an interview with Dubai Eye 103.8’s Business Breakfast.
Giegel added that the Hyperloop can provide a superior service for commuters, as it is well-equipped to cope with conditions in the Middle East region.
On Monday, the UAE-backed futuristic transport technology made an important milestone for its successful trial test run carrying two passengers in an airless pod at speeds of 160kph.
The test took place at the company’s DevLoop test track in Las Vegas, Nevada. The first two passengers included Giegel and Sara Luchian, head of passenger experiences.
They strapped themselves into their seats before they were transferred to an airlock.
Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem, Chairman of Virgin Hyperloop and Group Chairman and CEO of DP World, who was watching live from Las Vegas, said, “I had the true pleasure of seeing history made before my very eyes – to witness the first new mode of mass transportation in over 100 years come to life.”
A hyperloop is a shuttle pod that travels on magnetic rails and runs through a vacuum tube.
