Former Philippine Ambassador to Brazil Marichu Mauro has been formally charged for the alleged abuse of her Filipina housemaid.

Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr. took to Twitter to share that the former ambassador already faces charges as of November 9, Monday at 8:25 am.

“Charge served on her at 8:25 a.m. today. I sent a Memo to the President on it. The Hearing Panel’s report and charge will be passed upon and approved/disapproved by the Board of Foreign Service Administration, and finally by the Secretary. It shouldn’t take too long,” tweeted Secretary Locsin.

Mauro is currently under hot waters following the report of Brazilian news company GloboNews that showed a series of videos of her assaulting her Filipina household help.

The DFA recalled Mauro to explain her side regarding reports and footage that shows Mauro allegedly hurting her own household helper.

The Filipina household helper left Brazil last October 21 and has arrived in the Philippines. She is currently in coordination with relevant authorities for investigation purposes and has been offered assistance by local agencies.
