An Emirati man has forgiven and waived off some AED100,000 that a contractor had embezzled to treat his ailing mother.
In a report on the Khaleej Times, the contractor received the money as an advance payment for a house that he will be constructing.
The contractor however stopped the construction over financial constraints.
The Emirati man has given a cheque to the contractor worth AED100,000.
The Emirati man initially filed a complaint against the contractor for failing to finish the house construction. He also demanded the contractor to pay the money he had given him.
The prosecutors referred the case to the court, and that’s when the contractor admitted that he used the money to treat his ailing mother.
“My mother was critically ill, and I didn’t have the money to pay for her treatment. I decided to use my client’ money to settle her hospital bills. However, I didn’t want to embezzle his money,” the defendant told the court.
The Emirati man was moved by the contractor’s defense and later on decided to withdraw the case.
The court also withdrew the criminal charges against the contractor and he was able to finish his contractual work. (TDT)
