A United States government advisory panel has given its go signal for the use the coronavirus vaccine developed by Pfizer and BioNTech.
This is a major step in the U.S. as it deals with the worsening coronavirus situation.
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is set to follow the recommendation by its expert advisors. The recommendation comes after a 17-4 vote, saying that the vaccine is safe for people 16 years old and above.
The FDA is expected to issue its decision within days. However, mass vaccination for the general public will not start until the spring, according to reports.
Earlier, Pfizer said it will have 25 million doses of the two-shot vaccine for the US by the year-end.
“The American public demands and deserves a rigorous, comprehensive and independent review of the data,” FDA’s Dr. Doran Fink said in a Youtube video.
The vaccine developed by Pfizer-BioNTech remains experimental as the final-stage study is not yet complete, which results in a number of experts questioning its efficacy and safety.
The vaccine was earlier announced by Pfizer as more than 90% effective.
