A passenger of a Royal Caribbean has returned to Singapore on day three of a four-day ‘cruise-to-nowhere’ after a COVID-19 positive passenger was detected.
The guests were subjected to quarantine in their rooms after finding out about the infection.
The ‘Quantum of the Seas’ departed Singapore on Monday as part of a “safe cruising” pilot programme of Singapore’s tourism board launched in October.
Singapore offered these trips to residents so that they can sail in waters without any stops.
There were around 2,000 passengers aboard at the time who have all been confined to their rooms.
“A guest was feeling unwell and tested positive for COVID-19…We are asking all guests to remain in their state rooms to prevent the spread of illness,” the captain of the Quantum of the Seas told passengers in a video on social media.
“We kindly ask all guests with urgent medical or health situations like diabetes, heart disease etc to contact guest services,” the captain added.
Royal Carribean confirmed the positive case but added that the infected individual has no close contact with other passengers.
The cruise industry was among those badly hit by the coronavirus pandemic.
