A Dubai-based resident has been charged AED 185 for a short nine-minute cab ride across 5 kilometers.

Omar Elhadi took to Twitter to complain to Careem, an app that provides taxi services in the country and asked why did the company charge the expensive sum when his journey was only from Oud Metha to Al Karama.

“@CareemUAE 5 KM trip and I was ripped off AED 185!!” tweeted Omer.

Careem has been in touch with Omer via direct message to discuss his concerns.

“Hi Omer, Good Morning… hope you started your day well. Can you please share your registered number with us and we will look into it. Lets take this over Dm , we have sent you a message there,” responded Careem on the same thread.

Omer stated in his tweet that as a preventive measure, he will stop using the app for the meantime until the issue has been resolved.

“Careem, I hope this just a mistake, because I am not continuing using this app till this been rectified,” tweeted Omer, who is now currently discussing with Careem via DMs.
