Bahrain became the second country to give emergency use approval for the coronavirus vaccine developed by Pfizer-BioNTech.

The company just secured its first emergency approval last week from the United Kingdom.

“The approval of the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine will add a further important layer to the kingdom’s national COVID-19 response,” said Mariam al-Jalahma, CEO of the National Health Regulatory Authority in a report on Bahrain News Agency (BNA).

The health official, however, did not mention when the country will roll out the vaccine made by Pfizer.

In November, the Gulf kingdom approved the use of China’s Sinopharm vaccine on frontline healthcare workers.

Bahrain has so far over 87,000 coronavirus cases.

“This authorization is a goal we have been working toward since we first declared that science will win,” said Lindsey Dietschi, Pfizer representative in the Gulf told BNA.
