Russia said Tuesday its candidate coronavirus vaccine Sputnik V was 95 percent effective and it would come at less than $10 per dose in the international market.

However, Sputnik V will be a two-dose vaccine.

This, as the global race to develop a vaccine picks up steams.

According to the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), they target the vaccine roll-out in February 2021 and it will be free for Russian citizens.

Sputnik V, RDIF said, can be stored at between two and eight degrees Celsius, instead of the temperatures far below freezing required for some other vaccines.

Earlier, giant pharma company Pfizer and biotech company Moderna have revealed efficacy data on their respective COVID-19 vaccine candidates, at 95 percent and 94.5 percent respectively.
