A magnitude 6 earthquake hit the province of Surigao Del Sur on Monday morning, the Philippine Institute of Seismology and Volcanology (Phivolcs) said.
The institute said the offshore quake, which struck at 6:37 a.m. local time, hit at a depth of 33 km, 29 km southeast of the town of San Agustin, Surigao Del Sur.
The epicenter of the tremor was at the town of San Agustin. .
Initially, Phivolc said that the tremor was at magnitude 6.4, but later on downgraded it in a follow-up advisory.
Intensity V was recorded in Bislig City in Surigao del Sur and Rosario in Agusan del Sur.
Intensity IV was felt in Cagwait, Tandag City, and Bayabas in Surigao Del Sur.
Intensity III was meanwhile recorded in Cagayan de Oro City, as well as in Tagaloan, Villanueva, and Balingasag in Misamis Oriental.
Intensity II, was felt in El Salvador City, Initao, Luagit, and Manticao in Misamis Oriental, and in Virac, Catanduanes.
Intensity I was logged in Iligan City.
Phivolcs-DOST Usec. Renato Solidum said that aftershocks are expected, but no tsunami alert was issued.
