President Rodrigo Duterte said on Monday that he wants to utilize military camps and police stations as COVID-19 vaccination sites.

The President said that these sites should be used if there are no other available areas for vaccination.

Duterte also ordered the military and the police to be deployed in vaccination areas to ensure peace and order.

“Fundamentally, it is really giving people shots that would make them healthy,” Duterte said in a speech on Monday.

Vaccine czar Carlito Galvez said that they will be using military hospitals as COVID-19 vaccination centers for health workers, soldiers and their families.

“Aside from school buildings, military camps are best set to have an orderly vaccination,” Galvez said.

Duterte also said that public schools can also be tapped as vaccination centers especially in urban areas.

The President added that in the absence of conducive schools, local government units can also use gymnasiums in their areas.

“The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) through a memo, directed them (local government unit) to have a simulation or rehearsal for inoculation nationwide,” Galvez said.

The government is expecting the first batch of COVID-19 vaccines to arrive this week and the inoculation of health workers next week. (TDT)
