A 10-member team from the World Health Organization (WHO) arrived in Wuhan on January 14 to investigate where the virus was first detected in late 2019.
This was after President Xi Jinping’s government approved the said visit months after diplomatic wrangling.
According to state broadcaster CGTN, China’s National Health Commission said the team will first be quarantined for two weeks and will also undergo testing for the virus.
They are composed of virus and other experts from the United States, Australia, Germany, Japan, Britain, Russia, The Netherlands, Qatar and Vietnam.
Scientists suspect the virus came from bats or other animals, most likely in China’s south-west.
The team will cooperate with their Chinese counterparts in the said research. (ES)
