Will the Philippine government finally lift the General Community Status in different parts of the Philippines?

Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said that the government is gearing towards the so-called ‘new normal’ status.

“Depende po talaga iyan sa datos,” Roque said.

The Palace spokesperson said that the Inter-Agency Task Force against COVID-19 has approved in principle the recommendation to place the country in the so-called new normal.

“Matagal ko nang isinangguni at inaprubahan naman ng IATF na magkaroon tayo ng deklarasyon ng new normal. Ito yung mga lugar na talagang matagal nang panahon, walang bagong transmission,” he said.

Roque said that a ‘new normal’ classification may be imposed next month.

“Idi-discuss po ‘yan, but it has been approved in principle,” he added.

Malacanang said that guidelines must be made first since easing of measures could lead to more COVID-19 infections like what happened in other European countries.

Last month, President Rodrigo Duterte announced that Metro Manila together with 8 other areas  are under the General Community Quarantine or GCQ.

Other areas under GCQ: Isabela, Santiago City, Batangas, Iloilo, Tacloban City, Lanao del Sur, Iligan City, Davao City, Davao del Norte.

The rest of the country was under Modified General Community Quarantine (MGCQ). (TDT)
