A town mayor in North Cotabato was gunned down on Monday.
Libungan police chief Captain Jennifer Amutan, in a report by Rappler, identified the victims as Mayor Christopher “Amping” Cuan.
The local chief executive was shot while he was inspecting a cockpit that was under construction at around 10:30am at Barangay Cabaruyan.
Both he and his driver suffered multiple gunshot wounds that led to their instant death.
According to the police chief, the culprit was aboard an SUV.
In a separate story by Inquirer.net, Colonel Henry Villar, Cotabato province police director, said the area where the shooting incident happened was only a few meters from Cuan’s home.
Cuan, who was included in President Rodrigo Duterte’s drug list in 2016, survived a kill attempt two years ago.
He vehemently denied that he was involved in illegal drugs and even sought the help of then Philippine National Police (PNP) Director General Ronaldo Dela Rosa in Camp Crame to clear his name.
