The UAE and Israel are set to sign a deal allowing 28 weekly commercial flights from Israel’s Ben Gurion airport to Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

The announcement, according to Reuters, was made by Israel’s Transportation Ministry over the weekend.

The agreement also allows unlimited charter flights to small airports and 10 cargo flights from Israel to UAE.

The ministry said that the deal will be signed at Israel’s Ben Gurion airport and is expected to take effect in the coming weeks.

The two countries have reached a bilateral agreement paving the way for more investment for both countries.

Early this month, the first cargo ship from the UAE docked in Israel in the port of Haifa. This signals the official opening of the first commercial maritime line between the two countries.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu described the arrival of the ship as historical.

“A new trade route opens between the United Arab Emirates and Israel!” Netanyahu said in a tweet.

On August 13, the Israeli cabinet approved the return or normalization agreement with the UAE. This prompted the visit of an Israeli official in Abu Dhabi on August 31.
