The Department of Health said that it is still investigating the case of the first fatality infected by the UK coronavirus disease (COVID-19) variant in the Philippines
Weeks after the patient’s death, the Department of Health on Monday said the patient from Benguet never left his home and did not entertain guests.
Health Department spokesperson Maria Rosario Vergeire said that the 83-year-old patient died in the third or fourth week of January, but the source of infection remains a mystery up to this day.
“Noong kausap natin ang regional office, they said this person never went out — seldom — nandoon lang daw sa loob ng bahay, walang ibang contact. Tinitignan natin kung ano ang source of infection,” Vergeire said.
The DOH added that they are also investigating the case of another UK COVID-19 variant case whose source of infection remains unknown.
Twenty-two out of the 25 UK coronavirus variant cases in the Philippines have already recovered.
Two more patients are still active cases while one patient had died. (TDT)
