Health experts in the UAE have warned parents to avoid taking their children to crowded places as they are highly susceptible to the new strains of the COVID-19.

Dr. Shahid Gauhar, a specialist neonatologist and pediatric at Prime Hospital, said this is based on the report in the United Kingdom (UK) where almost 100 children are admitted every week in the hospital.

Dr. Sarla Kumari, internal medicine specialist at Canadian Specialist Hospital, noted that there has also been a significant increase in the percentage of children diagnosed with COVID-19 in the United States (US) in the past two to three months.

Although it is still early to say that the new strains may have anything to do with this but doctors are saying that they are closely monitoring this.

Presently, experts are most concerned about the following strains: the UK or British variant (B11), the South Africa variant (501Y.V2 or B.1.351), the Brazil variant (P.1) and the California variant (CAL.20C).

Dr. Praveen Sreekanthalal, a specialist general pediatric at NMC Specialty Hospital in Abu Dhabi, said kids really have a high chance of getting infected in crowded areas. Although they are asymptomatic, they can still transmit infection to others who are at high risk of developing severe infections. (ES)
