“Annual well-woman check-ups are encouraged for women in the reproductive and menopausal stages of their lives.  A woman’s medical history is reviewed and a gynaecological examination is done including breast examination and a Pap smear test, which start at age 25 and are repeated every three years until age 65.

Having yourself checked annually is not only limited to screening tests alone.  Though screening is vital to prevent or identify early stages of cervical and breast cancer, other issues pertaining to women’s health including pregnancy planning, menstrual disorders and menopause are also given importance.”

“Males are perceived to be the pillar of the family and are less likely to admit that they be unhealthy.

The American Family Physician Association has established its guidelines on the Adult Well Male Examination which comprises screening tests that must be fulfilled in order to assure early detection and treatment of certain diseases to assure longevity and good quality of life.

The regular screenings recommended include BP and BMI screenings, colorectal cancer and prostate cancer screening, immunisations, etc. Talk to your family doctor regarding the frequency of the screenings, depending on your age and family history. “

”Health screening ensures the overall well-being of the child and provides anticipatory guidance to parents which changes as children age. During the early clinic visits the screenings mainly involve monitoring weight and height and the achievement of developmental milestones, as well as providing recommended vaccinations, nutritional counselling and detection of developmental red flags and behavioural disorders like autism that may warrant further evaluation.

Children from five to 18 years old are routinely screened for vision and hearing because signs of impairment are quite subtle which may have been missed or at times may develop later.”
