Outgoing US President Donald Trump may have to wait a little longer before he can take back his Facebook account.

According to the operations chief of the world’s largest social network, Sheryl Sandberg, Facebook does not intend to unblock Trump’s account.

Facebook clamped down on a phrase “stop the steal” that has fuelled the President’s supporters.

Per report by Business Today, Sanberg said during the Reuters Next Conference that she was glad that Facebook had frozen Trump’s accounts as tech giants scrambled to crack down on his baseless claims about fraud in the US presidential election amid riots in Washington last week.

The company was quick to ban the phrase “stop the steal” altogether, claiming it was used to organize events contesting the outcome of the US presidential election that have a propensity for violence.

If Trump wanted to appeal the removal of his content, that could happen through the company’s new Oversight Board, Sandberg said.

“This shows the president is not above the policies we have,” Sandberg said. (CC)
