Demands for cosmetic surgery has risen in South Koreans as vaccines get rolled out worldwide, signaling a possible end to wearing of face masks, Reuters reported.

The country has long been famous for cosmetic surgery, with the industry boasting $10.7 billion  just in 2020. According to Gangnam Unni, the country’s largest online cosmetic surgery platform, it is estimated to increase to around US$11.8 billion in 2020.

According to cosmetic surgeons, patients are availing of surgeries in parts of the face that can be hidden under masks—including nose and lips. Many patients, they added, are also interested in having their eyes, eyebrows, and foreheads fixed.

In a report by Reuters, surgeon Shin Sang-ho said many people spent their emergency stimulus payment from the government on cosmetic procedures—increasing the revenue in the third and fourth quarter of 2020.
