The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has arrested a woman who allegedly solicited money using the name of Bongbong Marcos’ lawyer and spokesperson Vic Rodriguez.
Authorities identified the suspect as 31-year-old Caseilyn dela Cruz Cardenas.
Cardenas allegedly used a fake Facebook account to solicit money purportedly to help the victims of Tropical Storm Agaton.
She was arrested based on a complaint filed by Rodriguez and Arsenio Boy Evangelista of Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption (VACC) on April 18.
Rodriguez filed a complaint with the NBI after receiving information about the illegal money solicitation being made by Cardenas from wealthy businessmen.
“I have not asked from, nor have authorized anyone, to solicit funds for our campaign, disaster relief operations or for any other lawful purposes,” Rodriguez said in a statement.
“Let this arrest serve as a stern warning to others who form part of this group that we shall take all legal means necessary to stop their criminal activities and make them fully accountable for their deplorable deeds,” he added.
Recovered from the suspect were an iPhone 6 unit, a BDO ATM card and a receipt of Cebuana Lhuillier Pera Padala.
Cardenas denied the accusations.
