The Department of Health has announced that the Philippines has already surpassed the 594,000-mark in the number of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases as it records 3,276 new cases. The total number now stands at 594,412.

The country still has one of the highest number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Southeast Asia.

DOH has also confirmed that the recoveries in the country now stands at 545,853, after 10,516 patients have been declared recovered from the virus as part of the department’s Oplan Recovery Program.

In addition, the department announced a record of 51 new fatalities, bringing the total number to 12,516.

President Rodrigo Duterte announced that Metro Manila along with nine other areas in the Philippines will remain under the General Community Quarantine or GCQ in March. He has approved the recommendation of the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases to place Metro Manila, Apayao, Baguio City, Kailinga, Mountain Province, Batangas, Tacloban City, Iligan City, Davao City and Lanao del Sur under GCQ until March 31.

Malacanang said that the rest of the country will be under the modified general community quarantine or MGCQ.
