Health Secretary Francisco Duque spearheaded the symbolic vaccination program at the Lung Center of the Philippines on Monday.

Duque said that he is not qualified to take the Sinovac vaccine since he is beyond the age limit imposed by the Food and Drug Administration or FDA. Duque is 64 years old.

Duque administered the vaccine to Dr. Eileen Aniceto, Department Manager of the hospital’s Emergency Medicine and Outpatient Department.

The Chinese government has donated 600,000 doses of Sinovac vaccines which arrived last Sunday.

LCP Executive Director Dr. Vincent Balanag says they have initial 150 employees who will be inoculated this week. They are still convincing others so they may use all the available vaccines.

Initially, 90% of the around 1,400 employees of the Lung Center are willing to get vaccinated.

But this was when they learned that Pfizer vaccines were supposed to be the first to arrive in the country. (TDT)
