An Arab Man was fined by the Fujairah Appellate Court to pay Dh3,000 after he was found guilty of selling his friend’s car for Dh25,000 without the friend’s consent.
The Fujairah Court of First Instance previously cleared the defendant of the charges for lack of evidence.
The prosecution team and the complainant appealed the decision to the appellate court. The lawyer then requested the appellate court to scrap the judgment of the lower court, and order the defendant to pay a temporary compensation of Dh51,000, as well as court charges, as per reports from Khaleej Times.
The complainant said that the incident happened in 2018 when the defendant gave him a call and asked him to lend his car for work.

“I agreed and directed him to my garage, where I keep some cars, and told him to take his pick,” the victim said.
After an hour, the defendant called the complainant and said that the car had scratches.
“I replied: ‘As long as you are fine, no worries’. But later, he told me that my car was unfit for driving due to being involved in a big accident,” he said.
The complainant asked the defendant if the company would pay for the damage but the defendant only gave alibis.
“I gave a call to the traffic bodies concerned to check on my allegedly ‘cancelled’ car, but discovered that it was fine, and was not involved in any accident. I was shocked when they told me that it was being driven by another motorist,” the plaintiff said.
He also figured out that the defendant reached out to a car dealer and sold his car for Dh25,000.

“He could not register my vehicle under the name of the buyer because the defendant told him that the car owner was not available,” the complainant said.
The car buyer said that he tried to register the car under his name but the defendant kept on telling him that the real owner was abroad.
“Four months later someone told me about the entire fraud,” the buyer said.
The appellate court reversed the ruling of the lower court and slapped the defendant with a fine of Dh3,000. (TDT)
